Bio Diesel
What Is It?
Bio Diesel is a diesel-like fuel, manufactured from agricultural sources such as waste cooking oil.
How Is It Used?
The fuel is generally mixed with traditional diesel oil in varying proportions to allow diesel vehicle owners to use the fuel without modification to their vehicle. Usually, the fuel is available as a 5% bio diesel, 95% traditional diesel mix, which under EU regulations allows it to be used with any diesel vehicle.
What's The Catch?
Since common mixes of the fuel are comprised predominantly of traditional diesel, the fuel offers neither significant financial nor environmental benefit to its users. However, it is expected in the future that vehicle manufacturers will design their vehicles to cope with higher concentrations of biodiesel to allow some of the fuel's potential benefits to be realised.
Although biodiesel only offers a small benefit per user, it is thought that if the fuel was to become mainstream, there would be a larger cumulative reduction of harmful diesel emissions.
